Our recycling and donation program was a success. Compared to other EAA ships similar to the Karura, we came in first in all categories. Why there was a competition is beyond me. It isn't as though the Karura will get a larger budget for FY2017.

Zaizen: Seeing as there were more donations and recycling for technological items, I think it would be wise to establish what items are a necessity for the ship. You may attach a separate report for wanted, but unnecessary items.

I received a request for a "White Day" party from a number of passengers. As noted in EAA Regulation 4.4.1.1.6(b), any such requests for parties and other celebrations will be forwarded to our Outreach Officer for coordination. Fuji, consider this my approval for the festivities.

Lastly, Golden Week time off requests need to be submitted by April 4.

Grandfather and I successfully climbed Amidadake over the New Year. We weren't able to go to Myoujo-san due to the weather in Niigata, but it is on our list for this summer. We weren't keen on attempting to scale the mountain in the rain. However, the weather in Nagano was perfect for a climb and there was no precipitation at all. Afterwards, we enjoyed the Inagoyu Onsen.

On the first, we visited the Matsubarasuwa Shrine to bring in the new year before going back to Tokyo.

I hope everyone aboard the Karura has a successful and safe year.

First Officer Nakamura will be in charge on December 31 and January 1 as I take leave to visit family for the new year. I don't expect there to be any issues, but treat him as you would me. If you have any business to discuss while I am off-ship, you may take it up with him or wait for my return on January 2.

I received some initial reports from the EAA-mandated recycling drive. So far, the Karura has done exceedingly well in nearing the goal for collection. However, there have still been some mistakes in which items have been placed in the wrong containers. This is especially true for electronics. If you are unsure, please find the nearest crewmember and ask for assistance. I am also available.

Per EAA regulation 5.4.1.1.7(f), the ship's entertainment and shopping areas are free to close for pre-holidays -- December 24 and 31 -- if they so choose. EAA regulation 5.4.1.1.7(e) states that the entertainment and shopping areas will be closed for business on December 25 and January 1. Exceptions can be made if Form A-992 is submitted before December 20.

In order to accommodate those officers who are visiting home over the holiday, the ship will be making its way closer to the system in which Earth resides. Between now and then, there will be no other planetary visits or drop-offs.

As an EAA-mandated year-end conservation measure, there will be various containers spread throughout the ship where you can deposit unwanted items for donation or recycling. They will be color-coded as well as marked and a guide will be posted.

Please direct any questions to myself.

Requests for holiday leave need to be submitted no later than next Friday. It will be given at a first come, first served rate. Shuttles will be arriving the week before the Earth holiday of Christmas and you will be required to be back on board the Karura by January 7th or otherwise it will be considered an abandonment of your post and subject to an EAA disciplinary hearing.

I just finished The Narrow Road to the Deep North and Other Travel Sketches by Basho Matsuo. It seemed appropriate reading given my travels. My grandfather recommended the Under the Midnight Sun by Higashino Keigo as my next book. He said he had trouble putting it down and offered to send me his copy if I wanted to read it. I've already started Dead Mountain: The Untold True Story of the Dyatlov Pass Incident by Donnie Eichar, but I'll likely add it to my list.

I hope everyone enjoyed our brief visit to one of the moons of Tausan 5. I had no idea rave moons existed until now. If you still have a glow-item, please recycle accordingly.

Shishido, for our next security debriefing, I would appreciate no Tausan food items. They were highly disappointing.

Fuji, thank you for returning the gardens to their pre-Haunted House state. Based on the complaints I've received from a variety of passengers, I assume it was a success. I can't believe I'm about to do this, but... Given the upcoming Earth holidays and the number of passengers who celebrate those holidays, perhaps you would like to do some sort of family-friendly event for the season. If this is appealing to you, present your ideas within the next two weeks and I will look into them.

Shishido will be providing some defense training on Deck 4. Contact him for days and times.

Fuji, in order to cut down on extraneous expenses, you will need to limit your cardboard cutouts to no more than 5. Your other option, if you wish to have more than 5, is to gather the old ones and reuse accordingly. Lastly, avoid glitter and any other substance that is difficult for maintenance to clean.

Niou, as far as I am aware, your experiment(s) are to be performed on the felines you have in your lab. Cease testing out your theories on the passengers above the ship. I also need an updated report to forward to the EAA. Also, all your felines need to be re-tagged or I will need to submit a report requesting cancellation of your experiment.

Lastly, the EAA has approved an orbit around the planet Esman. It is located in the Proxima Vendrizi System. The EAA describes the planet as "known for its forests of cactus-like organisms and its deep valleys." We will arrive there on Sunday and orbit until Wednesday.

Fuji. It has come to my attention that last night during Atobe's party you made reference to being "concubine to the captain." As far as I am aware, the EAA has not added "concubine" to the officer list. In the future, it would be for the best if you used your correct title, EAA Outreach Officer.

There is no position titled "concubine to the captain" and even if there were such a position, you would not be the one filling it.

We have successfully entered orbit around the planet Vespa. The Karura will be maintaining orbit for the next week. Shuttles are available if you wish to visit the planet. Any items purchased on the planet will be subject to inspection upon reboarding the ship. Please note that no contraband of any kind will be allowed.
